Okay, now she was just torturing him with anticipation he was sure. Which was okay, he didn't mind that, it just made her more awesome in his mind.

"So what kind of position do you hold on the council?"

"I am the arts and media professional chair," Mac says loftily, carefully enunciating the words because she is drunk and doesn't want to seem that way.

"I was the executive producer for a news show on ACN back home. It's like CNN or Fox or MSNBC."

"Damn girl, you fancy," Hannibal said with a low whistle. He was pretty sure they had way more arts than media on the island, but he didn't exactly.keep up on that sort of thing.

"And I really hope you're not too much like Fox news."

"Oh Christ no, I'm not a fucking Republican," Mac says, spitting the word out as if it were something distasteful.

"My boyfriend was though. He who bought the giant rock."

"Of course he is," Hannibal said, as if only a Republican would blow $250,000 on a ring to fuck with someone. Pretty sure that kind of asshole-ishness went across party lines and was a trait of humanity in general.

"But I have to admit, I am a really big gun advocate. For me. I advocate guns for me, not most people."

"I advocate trained professionals having guns. I have issues when morons touting the second amendment shoot themselves in the foot and wonder why I want gun control. But one can do just as much damage with knives."

They're a little ways away from the bar now and Mac is just buzzed enough not to care about people seeing her in various states of undress. She tugs up her shirt, pointing to a long, raised scar across her stomach.

"I got knifed in Islamabad when I was a war correspondent."

"Shit, that is fucked up," Hannibal said, looking at the scar. He had a lot of experience with wounds so he was well aware of just how nasty a cut that would have been.

"You are fancy and hardcore, MacKenzie McHale. I've been stabbed but it's pretty expected in my line of work, cut like that while reporting is some serious shit."

"Tends to happen when one is a white woman with an English accent in a Muslim country," Mac says, grinning sheepishly.

"It's not...I was just getting the news."

"It is, because you had to know being a white woman with an English accent in a Muslim country was dangerous," he pointed out. He was even more impressed how she just played it off. Pulling part of his shirtsleeve aside, he pointed to a round scar.

"Dracula gave me that one. Shoved my own stake in me."

"Dracula is real for you?" It's not as far-fetched as it was several months ago and Mac reaches out and touches the scar lightly. It seems consistent with what he's saying and, really, who has a need to lie on the island? There's no consequence for truth.

"What...did you do, exactly?"

"Until we killed him, yeah."

Really, that had been pretty much all Blade and the Daystar virus, but he had been there so he felt like he could cash in on that a bit.

"And mostly I freaked the hell out because it was motherfucking Dracula," he said. At that point, seeing what he could do, Hannibal was pretty sure they were all going to die.

"I believe when faced with the prospect of Dracula I would also freak the hell out," Mac says, laughing lightly. "But you did kill him, so that's success, isn't it?"

Mac isn't sure how one does measure success in such things.

"Killed all the vampires, actually. With a virus one of our team made. So... hooray science."

Of course, hearing how some people's words suffered from horrific and devastating plagues, Hannibal wondered if they hadn't unleashed the early stages of some sort of virus that would mutate to kill humans. Hooray science?

"Too smart for me," Mac says, shaking her head. "I don't do things with science and numbers. I have to count on my fingers, for god's sakes. But there are other things I am infinitely more talented at and for this, we are grateful."

Mac knows her particular set of skills isn't of much use to the island, though, and that may be bothering her as much as Will's stupid ring. It doesn't matter. She straightens her shoulders and decides she will have a good time tonight with a man who is inexplicably interested in her and she's not going to think about everything else.

"I think we need to get where we're going, though. I believe I owe you a show."

"I wasn't exactly the brains of the operation," Hannibal admitted. Not that anyone would probably think that he was, but it was good to be honest. And he liked the idea of her being infinitely more talented at things, even if she didn't necessarily mean sex. But he hoped she meant sex.

"I was more the mouth. Speaking of which, it's a show now?"

"Well, I guess it could be a show," Mac says, shrugging slightly. Poor choice of words on her part but now she's gotten herself into it.

"You're probably going to be a hell of a lot more interesting to look at than I am, though. Seriously, how do you have that body? Protein bars and vampire hunting?"

"I think you're underselling yourself just a bit. Pretty sure you're way the hell more interesting to talk to," Hannibal said. He had only talked to her just this once and he thought she was pretty interesting.

"Honestly? I don't even work out. I actually had super strategic liposuction."

"Mmm, yes, the secret of the stars," Mac teases, laughing at that.

"I should have really looked into that before I decided to show up on a tropical island where everyone is ridiculously attractive and younger than me. Mostly. There's a few older."

"I really doubt you're that much older, if older at all, than most people here," Hannibal said as they headed into the caverns from the compound.

That age reasoning wasn't even counting the vampires and other shit that lived in this place that were hundreds, if not thousands, of years old.

"Personally, I'm only 33. Spending five years as an undead vampire may have given me a leg up on the aging."

"Ah, I'm 35. Of course, I am also no longer undead so perhaps that leaves me well-preserved," she deadpans.

"It does murder on your skin."

For a brief moment Hannibal thought about the giant age gap between one of the last times he saw a woman's breasts and this time and then stopped, because he had been dumb and didn't like thinking about that. He'd rather think about how MacKenzie seemed to be pretty awesome and he had superb judgement this time. Which was unusual for him.

"I'm digging your current state of preservation," Hannibal told her before peeling off his shirt as they neared the hot springs. "You are a superb vintage. Insert your own joke about wanting to sample your flavor."

"Mmm, I can think of a few," Mac says, following suit and pulling at the buttons on her own blouse. She's still just drunk enough to be uninhibited and she hopes it lasts because the feeling is so, so nice. The current view is also very nice and Mac wonders what lottery she's just hit.

"I really must be completely wasted because you are fucking gorgeous."

Hannibal was never sure how to respond to compliments like that, he'd much rather talk about how awesome his partner was. Let them deal with how to deal with shit like that. Not that he wasn't grateful, he just wasn't sure how to take it.

"You had better take advantage then before you sober up," he said, starting to undo his pants. "Wouldn't want to regret not doing something while I looked gorgeous."

"Oh my God, like you don't know," Mac says, utterly incredulous. She watches him for a moment, then starts pulling at her own clothes to get them off. It's not particularly graceful, but it gets the job done, and she's thanking all the deities she can that she had the foresight to swipe condoms from the Compound before coming out here.

"I win. I'm completely naked."

"What the fuck do I say to that though?" He said with a laugh. Damn if she wasn't really fucking observant. That was annoying and interesting. "Staying alive necessitates I work out."

Once she declared she was naked though, he could care less about being galled out. She may not be a super model but MacKenzie McHale was no slouch.

"Pretty sure if you're naked then I'm winning."

He did hustle to get the rest of his clothes off though, baring everything from his semi-hard cock to the Hello Kitty tattoo on his ass.
